1200 Bottles of Wine on the Wall

Wine Connoisseur is his middle name! Since our client collects wine from around the world, he decided to invest in a unique cellar to store his extraordinary bottles.

When he chose Advanced Contracting, Inc. to design and build his new cellar, he knew it was going to be a challenge. Creative design & professional engineering were key components before construction began.

Without changing the original footprint, they used the existing damp, dark crawl space for the new wine cellar. The cellar was built below grade directly beneath a bathroom. The exterior appearance of the house did not change.

At the onset of construction they used shovels and picks to dig down 6' at the footer since heavy equipment would not fit on the lot. The crew underpinned the existing footers. During framing the walls and ceiling had to be wrapped in plastic vapor barrier in order to assist in climate control. A mini-split system was installed, which is a small central air conditioner with a compressor outside and a head unit mounted on the wall inside the cellar. The thermostat is actually a cork on a probe that is inserted inside the wine bottle to determine its temperature.

With demo and rough construction complete the interior finishes began. Red wood wine racks were built onsite. Custom low voltage recessed lighting, warm colored ceramic floor tile and an old world plaster finish on the walls and ceiling brought this wine cellar to life. The wine tasting niche is conveniently located in the center of the room.

The damp dark crawl space was transformed into a custom 1200 bottle wine cellar and fulfilled our client's expectations.
